Revisiting Creative Chemistry 101 - Week Two

It has been loads of fun doing this set of classes again.  Wow... Distress has added so much in such a short time.  So has my abilities since first taking the classes.  Week two Tim had us review Days 4, 5 and 6.  And then create a project using sprays and stamps used any way.

The tags are both done layered misting, custom stamps and watercoloring with distress markers.  I was able to use the Texana Designs stamps.

Above are the three tags from Day 4 using Re-inkers.  The boot tag is watercolored with reinkers.  The haunted house is made from sprays made from re-inkers because Distress Sprays had not been introduced in 2012.

The boot and the bluebonnets are colored on watercolor paper and fussy cut using my Brother Scan'n'Cut.  The background is washed with reinkers.

These three tags were sprayed with mini-misters filled with water and re-inkers.  I may have used a few of the sprays from the 2015 colors.  I used hickory smoke for the spray through the stencils.

Custom ink pads remains one of my favorite uses of the re-inkers.  I can get so many different looks by changing the amount of water I use after stamping.

These three tags are the first technique from Day 5 Stained Kraft Resist.

The remaining 5 tags from Day 5 and Day 6 are in various stages of completion.  I will try to get images of those tags in the next post.

Revisiting Creative Chemistry 101 - Week One

I've joined the Creative Summer band wagon.  I had been thinking I should review the techniques from Creative Chemistry 101 and 102.  Well, leave it to t!m to instruct, motivate and challenge.

created 6/2016

It's fun to look back at my first attempts and see the improvement that comes with practice.  CC101 was already closed when I took it in June 2013 and I did not have all the supplies, but I had lots of fun.

Here are three of the tags I created this weekend.

Here are two different color combinations I played with:

And now for the 9 finished tags using the techniques from Day 1 and stamps from Texana Designs:

5/29/2016

I didn't have a heart charm, so I created my own.  I die-cut the shrink film with Spellbinders Scallop Heart then stamped the sentiment.  Then I used the Ranger Melting Pot to shrink the image.   It took several tries to get it the way I wanted it, but I am extremely pleased.

I don't have the Tattered Florals die so I used my spiral rose quilling kit to create the roses.  I recently purchased Faber-Castell Texture Gems Ice Gel Liner and thought it would make great little dew drops on the flowers.  The leaves were stamped with the Texana Designs Leaf Cluster.

Butterflies have become my passion.  I raise many from egg to caterpillar to pupa to butterfly.  I love watching the entire life cycle and being able to release the butterflies to begin the cycle again.  In honor of that joy I used the Texana Designs butterfly as a focal image for the tissue tape resist.

I used Distress texture paste with stencils for added dimension.  Next I picked through my charms and do-dads for a metal feather accent.

I had lots of fun creating this tag of the month.  Thanks T!m

Sassy Scrappers Make'n'Takes, Sat 3/5/16

For the Texana Design Team Stamp of the Month for March 2016 I created a couple of cards with the top and bottom of the front only connected by the focal image.  Patterned paper was used to decorate the top section and bottom section of the card.  The sentiment was stamped on the inside of the card so that it showed through the opening between the top and bottom of the card front.  I also used the mini stamp on the inside to pull the card together.  The images are colored with pencils and blended with gamsol.

A2 Card cutting guide for bluebonnet card:

Black Cardstock
4 1/4" x 7", scored at  5 1/2" - card base
4 1/4" x 2 1/2" - bottom of card front
4 1/4" x 1 3/4" - mat for connecting focal image

White Cardstock
4" x 5 1/4" - mat for inside
4" x 1 1/2" - for stamping focal image

Patterned Paper - Echo Park, Jack & Jill collection - Plaid
4" x 1 1/4" - top mat
4" x 2 1/4" - bottom mat

The sentiment on the paintbrush card is a bit tall, so I trimmed the bottom black and patterned paper to fit the sentiment.

The tag is made into a similar card by connecting two tags at the top and the top one scored to open.  The ATC was created as a single layer.

Variations:

So many variations, you can trim the front card at an angle or rotate the card.
