Jam'n House Border Stamps

One great stamp, five great looks.  The first card I simply stamped the house border and colored the houses and added a few lights with gel pens.  The second card I cut the houses apart and staggered them around the snow drifts.  The third card I wanted to try the glowing lights technique from Splitcoast Stampers so I stamped and embossed with black on black cardstock and used chalk pastels to add window lighting and Christmas lights.  The tag I made last year by stamping the house border on shrink plastic.  The final card is one I tried to create last year using liquid applique and Delta Decorative Snow.  That technique needs some practice, but it was fun.

Add a little color to your life TODAY

How much fun are these stamps!!!  The card below was my first attempt on regular cardstock.  I used the distress markers to color the sentiment stamp and colored the letters of TODAY with distress markers.  I wasn't crazy with it, so I tried blending the colors with water.  That's when I decided that I should have used watercolor paper.  I also knew that I should pull from my Creative Chemistry 101 class and create a custom stamp pad.
THCC 101 Day 4 Tag 3  Re-Inkers: Custom Stamp Pad Technique.  By using the custom stamp pad I was able to emboss with clear embossing powder to keep the ink from blending the words away.  I colored the large letters with distress ink and misted with water so that ink would blend on the watercolor paper.

HAPPY everything

Here's a great word stack for every holiday.  I used the large "HAPPY" word with the script stacker "everything".  I embossed it with gold on a shaped tag from my stash.  I colored the inside of HAPPY with a detail waterbrush filled with dylusions.  And then dug into my paper stash to come up with something to stack it on.  In order to get the tag to really pop, I used my versamark pad around the edge and embossed it with the same gold embossing powder.  I attached the tag with a gold flower brad.  The patterned paper on the gold background was a little boring so I pulled out one of my all time favorite corner punch for a little pizzazz.

Snowglobe - Many coloring options

For the Texana Design Team sample using the snowglobe, I decided to  look at all the different coloring mediums I have.  Silly me, I thought I would find a favorite.  Instead, I love them all! I made two A2 cards and 12 ATCs.  I also created a reference sheet showing all of the products I used.  Maybe this will help me step out of my comfort zone and create with some of my many other products.

As the holidays approach, I'm trying to figure out what I want to do for Christmas cards this year.  I was looking back at previous Texana Design Team samples I've made.  This one was one I did last year, but it it so stinkin' cute that I might have to make some to send this year.

Texana Designs Pumpkins and Faces - Happy Halloween 2013!

This card measures 5" x 6 1/2".  I placed the full tag on the far left side and cut the white card top to 3 1/2".  I backed the card front with maroon cardstock extending about 1".   I was then able to position the sun a little further off the card.   I added orange cardstock on the inside attached to the back.

Below is an A2 card using a similar tag that was cut down to 5 1/4" and mounted on the outside edge of the card.  A ribbon down the spine filled in the extra space.

The third card is two tags glued together at the top.  I scored the top tag only at 1" so that the card front could lift up.

Industrial Technique from THCC 102 & Texana Designs Longhorn Santa

Here is one of the tags I made in Tim Holtz' Creative Chemistry 102 online class day one.  The technique is called "Industrial" and it is created by embossing foil cardstock or foil tape and then aging it with distress paint.  For the tag I used the movers and shapers tag die cut and then ran it through a 5x7 embossing folder from Cricut's Heritage set.  I popped the santa longhorn and stamped a simple greeting.

Below are two cards I adapted from this tag. I wanted to see the difference in using Foil Cardstock and Foil Tape on cardstock.  If you look closely you can see the embossing on the right (the tape) is more crisp.  I love the way both of them turned out and would not want to choose a favorite.

Happy Birthday Jillian!

The pressure is on... Jillian wants a card cooler than the one I made for her the previous year.  This year I think I surprised her!  I was as tickled with the card as she was!

Creative Chemistry 102 - Day 5 - Gold Leafing with Sticky Powder

Sticky Embossing with Gold Leafing
Ah, yes... much better after applying a darker green for the tree and adding red stickles glitter to the stars and barbed wire.

Creative Chemistry 102 - Day 2 - Embossing through Stencils

Embossing through Stencils
This tag turned out really cool even before I put the stamped images on it.  I first embossed the hat in copper on the blue kraft core paper, but it just didn't look right after I had it cut out.  So I stamped and embossed with Zing Vanilla on the blue.  That was better but a little too light.  I went over it with a brown blending foam and distressed it a little.  Then I needed a little something to put my sentiment on.  Might as well use the trash... the flip sid of the hat I didn't like worked like a charm!

The pictures just don't do this technique justice.  I below are a couple of close ups where you can see the clear distress powder over the distress ink through the stencils.

If you haven't signed up for Creative Chemistry 101 and 102, you don't know what you are missing!

Creative Chemistry 102 - Day 5 - Sticky Powder with Glitter

Sticky Powder with Glitter
I found that this technique takes some practice.  Tim made it look so very easy with those multicolored snowflakes and using Sticky Embossing Powder to adhere the glitter.  I will just have to keep practicing.

I did learn one thing.... sticky embossing powder and a detailed stamp just don't work (see below).  Note to self:  don't do that again!

I just love the way the Texana Designs - Jam'n Stamps worked with this design.  The snowflake border is done with the glitter.  The Snowperson is paper pieced and after coloring it, I covered it with Frosted Film.  I also used the Frosted Film on the snow drift die cut.  I'm loving the glimmer from that frosted film.

Creative Chemistry 102 - Day 2 Paint Monoprint

Paint Monoprint
Here's a Day 2 tag that I completed with a sentiment and stamp from Texana Designs.  The butterfly was stamped using a technique from Creative Chemistry 101 - Custom Stamp Pad

Creative Chemistry 102 - Day 3 Distress Glitters

Distress Clear Rock Candy Glitter
Distress Colored Glitter
Here are two side by side comparisons of  the distress glitters.  The leaves were first colored with distress inks and then Clear Rock Candy Glitter was applied.  The tree and reindeer were inked with a color and then Distress colored glitter applied.

Creative Chemistry 102 - all together now

Here are samples of each of the techniques shown in Creative Chemistry 102. If you haven't taken Creative Chemistry 101 or 102, you really should. Tim has some great discussions about how the products work together as well as many super cool technique tags for reference. Check out Online Card Classes. Many of these techniques I duplicated using different colors or stamps. Check out my blog for more side by side samples in the near future.

Creative Chemistry 102 - Day 5

All good things must come to an end.  Day 5 was all about embossing.  I learned some fun new techniques that will be showing up in future cards and projects.

Creative Chemistry 102 - Day 4

Day 4 was Thursday and I didn't finish my tags until Saturday, but here they are.  All using alcohol inks in new and different ways.  I love the way the colors look on glossy paper and metals.

Creative Chemistry 102 - Day 2

Day 2 was all about the ways to use layering stencils.  I can tell that some techniques need more practice, but I don't know of anything that doesn't improve with practice.

Creative Chemistry 102 - Day 1

Here are the first six tags made from Tim Holtz' Creative Chemistry 102 Day 1 using Distress Paints.  I love it!  I want more colors!  I want it all!!
