Texana Design Team
2/01/2015
For the February 2015 Texana Design Team we were supposed to create a Texas Independence sample and use embossing folders. I opted to use the original tattered flag on a fence post in rural Texas.
The way the stamp was designed the blue part is the color of the ink or embossing powder. I used Ranger's Adirondack Denim embossing powder. Next I used a versamark pen and colored the red portion of the flag. I embossed it with Ranger Rich Red. I cut out the flag only to paper piece on the finished card. The next challenge was the post transitioning across the torn grass hill and the embossed sky. I pulled out MISTi and stamped the post on the torn green cardstock exactly where I wanted the flag positioned and embossed it with black to match the fence. Then I put the blue piece of cardstock down and embossed in black again. One more time I embossed the flagpole on silver in black.
Next I put the blue cardstock (with white core) in the Darice embossing folder of clouds. I tried to emboss only to the right of the black heat embossing. Since the cardstock has a white core, I gently sanded the clouds. I used my blending tool and vintage photo ink to define the horizon. I used mowed lawn to define the bottom of the card. I used Distress markers to color the fence posts and the grass. Finally I was ready to assemble the main image.
I used the Simon Says Stamps! Dies - Stitched Rectangles for matting the card. I used the largest die and cut it out in black and again in white. I centered the main image on the center of the white inset rectangle. The outside of the black was trimmed to about 1/2" wide. In order to give the card a "shadow box frame" appearance, I mounted the black frame with black foam tape. Finally I mounted the entire element on a red card.

Happy 2015!
Wishing all a happy, prosperous and healthy 2015!
Texana Design Stamps - BW Heart Flag & "Have a Texas-size New Year's"
Vertigo Film - Taffeta
Embossing Folders - Cuttlebug - Stars & Darice - Fireworks
Fireworks! Ink Spray - Danube Blue & Rhubarb Stalk on background paper
Copics for highlighting fireworks
Stickles on the Texas star
Vertigo Tips: Embossing with folders can be a tricky process. Test the folder and a scrap (unlike what I did). Some folders emboss nicely, others emboss too deeply and cause the film to buckle.
