Introducing Tags and Textures Workshop @ Stamp Antonio, 10/2/2013 @ 4:30

 

Here's the description for the class Jeanie and I are taking right now took Wednesday, 10/2/13.

You will learn that you do not have to settle for flat pages! Learn how to add texture and interest with tags, flaps and pockets. With a quick fold here and a little tear there, here a tag, there a tag, every page is tactile. You will bring your pages to life with this touchy feely treatment.

Dylusions Chrismas Cards - Part 6

Here's a card of my own design.  I pulled from the experience of the previous cards and stepped out of my comfort zone.  The large tree was outlined from a stencil and then I used UTEE to emboss it.  For the sprayed background for the words used the I used the snowflake stencil and misted the white Dylusions spray through it.  I love the way the color comes through the semi-opaque spray.  I also used one of the Christmas Border stamps.  I wasn't satisfied with it simply black on white, so I colored some of the trees and stars, but not all of them.

Dylusions Chrismas Cards - Part 5

 Love, love, love this cute little reindeer.  Check out the legs, yep cut off and now doing the splits!  The bobbles on the horns and the nose have Glossy Accents on them for extra shine.  All of the feature elements are cut out and glued on the back ground.  This allows the images and the words to really stand out.  Most of Dyan's stamps are made for the journals, but with a little creativity they can be modified to stamps.

Okay, I promised... here is me stepping out a little.  I borrowed the inspiration for an online card, but this time I incorporated some of the tips and techniques I learned at Dyan's workshop in Wichita Falls.  Check out the circles... those are spray caps tapped into blue and "stamped" onto the background.  Next spray the white on your craft mat and slightly offset from the blue circles.

The lines on the left are done in a similar manner using a craft scraper to add blue vertical lines and horizontal lines.  Then using the white just offset from the blue.

The holly at the top of the card is done using the bleach out technique shown here.

Dylusions Chrismas Cards - Part 4

These two samples I had to deviate from the inspiration above because believe it or not I DO NOT have every Dylusions stamp set.

The cool thing about her stamp sets is that they can all work together and with different sets.

The background sprays and ghosting were done when I first got my sprays and stencils.  I was just practicing and didn't know what I would finally make, but it works great here.  You can really see the ghosting at the bottom of the card where I misted water through the stencil and lifted some of the color off.  These sprays are reactive with water and do all sorts of cool things!  If you don't believe me just want this video.

Yep, here's another deviation from the inspiration... I didn't have the same head.  Who would know, right?  She looks great as is.  I cut the legs off of the body and was able to make her sit cross legged.

Dylusions Chrismas Cards - Part 3

I believe the best part of these two cards are the quotes, but that's just what I think.  This snarky little elf is painted with water brushes and white gel pens.  The hat trim and beard are glittered with Rock Candy Distress Stickles.  The snow flakes are a reverse stencil where I used the white Dylusions Spray so it gave everything a lighter color.  The card I made using the opposite side of the stencil will be featured in a later post.

This little lady wants to negotiate.  Really?  All dolled up in her santa hat and pink mustache... yep she can negotiate!

This is a good example of stencils and background stamps used to create depth and interest (in the background).  She the dots stamped in red?  How about the honeycomb stencil sprayed with red, then reversed.  The longer you look, the more you'll see.

Dylusions Chrismas Cards - Part 2

These two cards were quite fun.  On the one to the right notice that the black stars were painted through the stencil in the upper right hand corner and then in the opposite corner I flipped the stencil over and cleaned it right on the card!  I used the same black paint dabber to ink the edges of the sprayed background.  A little color to the date with my spray filled water brush.

This card the sprayed background is set off with a border stamp that has been colored with coordinating water brushes.  The three caps were stamped and cut out, the colored.  I wasn't happy with them on the card because the blended in so much with the background.  So... I used my white gel pen and outlined them for instant "pop".  I also added a bit of detail to the holly leaves with the white pen.

Did I tell you how much I am enjoying the Dylusions Sprays, Stamps & Stencils???  If not, just take a peak.  Dyan Reaveley is quite a delight.  Check out Dyan's Demo here.  She's said that any of her art work is okay to be copied and I took her word on that.  I wanted to play with making Christmas Cards this year using her stamps, so I studied the master herself.  Above are samples that I found on her website.  I've copied all of those and a couple others I found on line and now I think I'm ready to start out on my own designs.  I'm gonna post some each day until I get to take a new class with Dyan on 10/2/13 at Stamp Antonio with my best friend Jeanie.  I can't wait.

Okay... who sees the wings?  Yep wings for trees!  Gotta love the way that lady thinks!

The backgrounds are sprayed with two or three colors and allowed to blend.  Then the layers start going in.  Check out the stencil trees in the top left corner, then notice the reverse image in the bottom right corner.  How cool is that!

On the "Dear Santa" sample two different wings from two different stamp sets were used.  I also used a black paint dabber through the tree stencil.  The bells at the top are simply traced through another stencil.
